World’s Search engine giant Google honored moms around the world on Mothers Day 2020 with an image of the smiling sun looking down at what may appear to be plants (believed to be her offspring)
About Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is a holiday that celebrates the family’s mother, as well as motherhood, maternal ties and the mother’s role in society. In many parts of the world it is celebrated on different days, most commonly in the months of March or May. This complements similar holidays that celebrate members of the family, such as Father’s Day, Siblings Day and Grandparents Day.
The Traditional Mother’s Day started in the United States in the early 20th century, at the initiative of Anna Jarvis. It is not (directly) linked to the other popular celebrations of motherhood that have existed in the world for thousands of years, such as the Greek devotion to Cybele, Rhea the Great Mother of The Gods, the Roman festival of Hilaria, or the Christian Mothering Sunday (originally a commemoration of Mother Church, not Motherhood).
In some nations, though, Mother’s Day is still associated with these older traditions. The modern version of Mother’s Day, originating from the United States, has been criticized for having been too commercialized. Founder Jarvis herself regretted this commercialism and voiced views about how she never meant it
About Mothers Day 2020
Google shows the hard work moms do everywhere, regardless of species. She gently teaches us the skills we need to thrive, and then offers her caring protection selflessly when our trust exceeds our current capability.
Every day, mothers play that function in many species, often without proper recognition. It is for this dedication that on Mother’s Day Google honored moms worldwide with a smiling sun looking down at plants to make sure they have enough sunlight for growth through a process of photosynthesis.
Mother’s Day as we know it today was first observed in 1908, when Anna Jarvis organized a memorial for her mother Ann, a peace activist on both sides of the Civil War who cared for the wounded soldiers. President Woodrow Wils thanks to Anna Jarvis ‘ efforts to get the day officially known as a holiday Six years later signed a decree designating the second Sunday of May as a national holiday to honor mothers.
In keeping with Google tradition, the search giant turned to nature this Mother’s Day to represent the parent who brought us into this world; previous performances included a cactus and dinosaur. That year, the importance of photosynthesis is greatly represented as the sun looks down to care for plants.
